Our close friend and booking agent Adam called us to see if we were interested in taking some pictures at the 2013 Lowell Folk Festival for his event Folk n Rage Fest hosted at Gemstones. The Venetia Fair put on a great show, giving a very high energy performance. What I enjoyed most about their performance was that at times it felt very intimate, only to shift back into overdrive. Great band.

Gemstones can be a little dark at times, but for the most part the lighting is pretty good. There are some windows off the side of the stage that can cause for blow outs during the early hours of the day, but once dusk rolls around things really start to round out. For a small bar venue it really has a nice little stage that can accommodate any band. Everyone can pack in around the stage, since it is in the corner, but this can cause for some crowding and makes shooting difficult at times.
I shot this set between ISO 1600 and 3200, even higher on a few shots. The 5d III worked great in low light, as always. I used both lenses frequently during this shoot, the 50mm always looks so beautiful in these low light environments, plus that bokeh!
